At Fincas Mierisch it is a crucial part of their operations to make sure that their workers are happy and paid fairly. Since most coffee pickers live on the farm with their families during a harvesting season, all of the farms provide child care services and have access to primary education. Child labour is strictly prohibited on all of the farms. During the harvest season, the children of the coffee pickers are provided free meals. The majority of their employees (roughly 70%) are women. From coffee pickers to upper management, women have contributed greatly to their growth and quality.
With regards to the environment, they make sure that they do not add any sort of chemicals to any plants that are within 5 metres from any source of water. Any water they do use during the wet mill processing is recycled in one of their biodigesters inorder to make sure that it is not contaminated. In addition to this, they also make sure to preserve and grow trees on all of their farms. Trees not only provide shade and wind reduction, which benefits the coffee plant, but they also support the local wildlife and vegetation on the farms.
