Honduras, La Lima, San Andres, Lempira
San Andres is a small municipality that belongs to the Honduran state of Lempira with a population of 15,000 people; all focused on coffee production and making it the community’s first source of income. It is located on the “Pico Congolon” at about 1,650 m.a.s.l. (14°11’6’’N 88°30’0’’W) surrounded by 2 biological reserves (Reserva Biologica de Opalaca and Reserva Biologica Volvan Pacavita).
San Andres coffee continues to be processed under traditional farming methods, helping to acquire its homogeneity of colour appearance and develop its unique, delightful, sweet, and chocolaty flavour profiles
By purchasing this microlot of coffee we are directly contributing to the BECAMO Hurricane Fund, helping to rebuild the lives of the coffee community devastated by Hurricanes ETA and IOTA.
‘In the first week of November, Hurricane ETA made landfall in Central America. It destroyed crucial infrastructure and hurt big amounts of rural livelihoods in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala – countries that were already weakened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Only two weeks later, Hurricane IOTA hitthe coast of Nicaragua just a few miles south from the first one and has caused even heavier flooding and landslides across the countries, has devastated many more communities and forced thousands out of their homes into shelters nearby.’
For every bag of coffee from Honduras exported through BECAMO, the respective NKG import company (InterAmerican) will support its sister company. The premium is paid as 100% donation that is directly used to help the families and repair their damages.
Well balanced with notes of dark chocolate, peanut butter, raisin, fig and apricot.
