This coffee comes from a group of small producers. Siltepec is a strictly high grown coffee, which is harvested and processed by small producers using traditional farming methods; such as shade growing, craft de-pulping, fermenting, washing and sun drying.
The plantations are located near The Biosphere Reserve El Triunfo. In 1972 it was named as a "Natural Area" in ChiapasState, to preserve the "quetzal" from becoming extinct. In 1990, it became a federal "Protected Area" extending the area a further 119,177 hectares. The Biosphere Reserve El Triunfo hosts 11 of the 18 recognized protected vegetation types in Chiapas; there are about 1,500 species of plants identified, but this number could grow to 3,000 because of the unclassified varieties.
. The area has a lot of humidity, shade grown and excellent soil conditions creating the perfect environment for the development of this specialty coffee.
