Pumphreys NECTA Junior Barista Championships 2012

Pumphreys Coffee have been involved with NECTA for a number of years now, supporting the Chefs of the Region, building their coffee knowledge and allowing them to explore opportunities within the coffee industry. We are dedicated to raising the standards of Espresso based beverages in the Region.

The North East Culinary and Trade Association aims to provide skills and opportunities to chefs, service personnel, food producers and all catering professionals in the North Region of England.

At the Junior NECTA Championships on Tuesday 23rd October 2012 held at Newcastle Civic Centre, Pumphreys Coffee hosted a Young Barista Competition.

Competitors had ten minutes to produce two cappuccinos, two espressos and two signature drinks for the two sensory judges under the watchful eye of our technical judge. Drinks were marked on Taste, Presentation, Consistency and Technical Skills when using an espresso machine.

Results:

 1st Place: Emma Mellor (Gareth James Chocolatiers, Tynemouth)

2nd Place: Callum Day (Voodoo Café, Darlington)

3rd Place: Stephen Aitken (Tyne Metropolitan College)

Best Cappuccino: Emma Mellor (Gareth James Chocolatiers, Tynemouth)

Best Espresso: Callum Day (Voodoo Café, Darlington)

Best Signature Drink: Stephen Aitken (Tyne Metropolitan College)
