Championing at City & Guilds Barista Training

Posted

On Friday the 11th March 2011 we were delighted to meet Martyn Heriott from Beverage Standards Association (BSA)* as he presented us with our City and Guilds Approved Training Centre certificate.

Pumphrey’s Coffee have been providing Level 2 VRQ in Barista Training since June 2010, and Introductory Barista Training courses even long before that. So what does this certificate stand for you ask?

After a brief chat with Jim Devlin (Training & City Guilds, BSA) we soon discovered.

To become a City and Guilds Approved Training Centre an organisation has to meet certain criteria with regards to facilities and equipment provided, the quality of training and other issues. There are currently only six City and Guilds Approved barista training centres within the UK, and two more centres are trying to reach the criteria necessary to become one.

BSA aims to improve the standard of quality within the non-alcoholic beverages industry and according to J. Devlin equipment, coffee and packaging have gone a long way, but skills are not there yet. However, skills are crucial for delivering a great quality drink and this is where the City & Guilds approved centre certificate comes in.

Together with London School of Coffee we at Pumphrey’s Coffee are championing with regards to facilities provided and student output. Even more than that – we are currently the only centre within the UK which provides the opportunity to actually see coffee beans being roasted.

“The ethos for BSA is excellence, quality and passion, and I believe that any candidate leaving Stuart’s training will have a much better chance of achieving this, especially the passion!”

Why not see for yourself? Our barista training courses are aimed at coffee enthusiasts, experience day seekers, businesses and those who have that dream of opening a coffee shop. We hand roast all of our coffee at our premises every day or two in a traditional open-flame roaster. Come along to our lovely Blaydon café, showroom and shop to have a chat with us about the training or coffee in general, or just to sit down and enjoy the freshest cup of coffee you will ever find!
