Brewing Emporium Scoops Two National Awards

We are delighted to announce that our retail shop in the Grainger Market, Newcastle have been lucky enough to win two national titles at yesterday’s Beverage Standards Association (BSA) awards.
During the glitzy awards ceremony at the Power Road Studios in London ‘Pumphrey’s Coffee Centre and Brewing Emporium’ received the national award for Best Espresso and also the prestigious 5 Cup award.

The Awards were collected by Dan Shannon, Manager of the Pumphrey’s Coffee Centre and Brewing Emporium and Stuart Lee Archer, Head Roaster at the roastery in Blaydon, both of whom were also finalists in the UK Barista Championships earlier this year.

‘These awards go a long way to recognising the vast improvement in quality Newcastle has seen in the past three years. It puts Newcastle firmly on the map as a destination for coffee drinkers to visit and sample fabulous coffees coupled with our famously friendly Geordie charm’

Stuart Lee Archer - Head Roaster

As with the famous Michelin Guides, judging for these Awards are undertaken by anonymous trained experts providing accurate and impartial assessments. Instead of ‘stars’ the BSA’s ‘cup’ rankings are awarded to different outlets with five being the maximum.

The aims of the Awards are to establish nationally recognised standards for all cafés and restaurants, identify and recognise excellence of drinks quality in the café market, encourage best service standards and support good staff development and training.

If you would like to come and visit Dan and his team, they will welcome you with open arms and can be found in the Grainger Arcade in Newcastle City Centre.
