A World of Coffee

Pumphrey's Coffee is sourced by Malcolm Archer. Malcolm travels a great deal, visiting tea and coffee plantations around the world to ensure that Pumphrey's can offer their customers the very best in tea and coffee. Visits in recent years include Kenya, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Brazil with another trip planned for Colombia in early 2007.

The picture inset is from Malcolm’s visit to Guatemala.

Last year a visit to the birthplace of the new 'Specialty Coffee' industry in Seattle was enjoyed by both Malcolm and his nephew Stuart Lee.

While there they attended the 2005 SCAA annual conference (Specialty Coffee Association of America) which had over 2800 exhibiters from all over America and the rest of the world.

Traditionally this is the event at which all the new trends for the coming year begin before spreading across America and into Europe.

A tremendous resource and both Malcolm and Stuart Lee came back buzzing with enthusiasm.

A tour of the city's coffee shops and coffee roasters was also enjoyed with notable trips taken to The Green Room (a green coffee warehousing unit), Dillanos Coffee Roasters (a young fast expanding roasting company) and Espresso Vivace (coffee shop and roasting room of David Schomer).

While in the area they also ventured over to Vancouver and visited the Swiss Water Decaffeination Headquarters where they enjoyed a tour of the publicly owned plant and enjoyed an afternoon cupping many and various Swiss Water Coffees.

Malcolm and Stuart also work closely with the espresso machine factories in Italy. where they are consulted in the design and production process which is both enlightening and useful for the British market. As you may know Pumphreys are appointed distributors for many traditional espresso machines on which their service engineers are fully trained.

Further connections in Italy see Pumphreys as UK distributors for the beautiful I.G.V range of coffee bean dispensers for the delicatessen and grocery retail trade. To view the dispensers log on to www.igv.it and then contact us for prices and deliveries.
